Pink Floyd Animals Album Cover

Iconic. Utterly iconic. Immediately recognisable as associated and representative of Pink Floyd. It was the artwork to Pink Floyd’s 1977 album, Animals and featured the now legendary Battersea Power Station lit by a setting late afternoon sunset with an inflatable pig floating between its two front chimney’s.

The artwork for the album was so successful that it joined the other works that were also successfully symbolic of the band. And the pig, dubbed “Archie”, also became synonymous not only with the band but also served as a symbol of activism against the establishment.

The artwork also has a clear aesthetic appeal for its deep warm colours and depiction of Battersea Power Station as the central subject matter. And coupled with the fact that this was so symbolic of the band, the image was in great demand to adorn many walls as a print of the original. But a printed copy, no matter how large just didn’t suffice. It needed to be painted where artwork produced using paints could convey the drama and even add its own ‘stamp’ to the image.

So, I set about painting this image. Painted using oils on a 1.5M x 1.0M canvas, here’s the result.
